We spent an awesome weekend with the Bauers in Ocean City (we do have the best clients!). The weather Saturday was perfect so we headed out early to the beach for the portraits (sorry kids, I know it was hard) but as you will see we had a blast.

I also got to ride on a wave runner, fish (caught a small Robin, while fishing for flounder.. fail!), got to see my son Ryan for the first time on the beach and ate like a king on Sunday night!… not a bad weekend at all!

Had the opportunity to be second to Jason Prezant , a great photographer based in Delaware, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him. You should check his post about this wedding.

It was a hot day but a very enjoyable wedding. One thing that I like about weddings, since I became a parent, is how proud the parents of the bride and groom look during the day. You can feel all the emotions bottled up in their faces.

Welkinweir is actually a nonprofit arboretum and gardens (197 acres), open to the public daily (free) and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, you should check it out!

Since then we have become friends and we are still very grateful for the job they did at our wedding (it doesn’t hurt that  they are some of the nicest people and their food is awesome). For the past two years we have also been getting their Valentine’s Package for a quiet and awesome romantic dinner at home (fellas take note!).

The pictures below were taken at a wedding Bause-Landry was catering at Welkinweir. More on Welkinweir in a future post.

Now, this was fun! First time shooting a horse, well, photographing it.

It was also the hottest day of the year so far (90*) but Jill was great, and as we discovered a natural model.

Angie and John contacted me a while back to take pictures of their guitar. They were about to move to a new place and had envisioned the pictures on a huge wall above the sofa in their living room. This was a departure from what I’ve been doing lately and I was curious to see a wall full of pictures taken by me…. that is, other than the one I have at home with pictures of Ryan.

We were pretty happy with the results, and Angie and John were gracious to let me take a couple of portraits in their new home.

It is great to see a good friend be happy after going through a tough time.

I’ve known Roger since we were about 15 years old. We grew up together, went to the same high school, played in bands together, supported each other in what used to be a strange land, went fishing, camping, gone through thick and thin. He is not only my buddy, but my brother, the best man in my wedding, and the godfather to my son. He has always been there when I needed a friend.

A lot has happened to him within the past year and I’m very glad to see him pull through, make the best of it and come out happier than ever.

Roger, I’m very proud of you bud.

Last year, Roger, Matthew (my godson) and Vanessa came to visit for the New Year’s festivities and of course I could not let them go without taking a couple of pictures. Unfortunately it was in the mid 20′s that day so we stayed just in the back yard of my house and went in and out for each shot. It was kind of funny running back to the house to get warm and out again for the next shot.

I was very fortunate to be a second shooter and assistant for the famous Neil van Niekerk this past October. Neil is one of the most well regarded photogs in this industry. Not only he is a great photographer but he ROCKS the on camera flash and has a book to prove it. Neil also goes out of his way to teach others through his other site, Planet Neil where he posts  articles and tutorials about light, flash, metering, etc.  and equipment reviews.

Believe me, the guy knows his stuff !!!!!

Now, not only was a loooong day (3 different locations and a hike to New Jersey), but thankfully Neil turned out also to be a fun person to hang around with (there are rumors of a couple of photogs  singing Born in the USA and New York New York during the reception). I’m extremely grateful for all the knowledge he was able to impart (not only during the event, but also afterward with a “no holds barred” critique).
